FAQ

1. How do I know if Art Therapy is for me?

I offer a 15 minute phone consultation where we can discuss any of your questions about my practice. We can also briefly discuss your goals for therapy and decide if there is a good match. No art experience is required. Art Therapy focuses on the process of art-making and the relationship to the art, to yourself and to the therapeutic relationship.

2. What can I expect at a session?

Therapy sessions can start with a conversation on where the client is at in that moment. The conversation can help to guide us to the art-making or to what is needed for the session which can also be talk, mindfulness, or play oriented.  Towards the end of the session, we can do a reflection of the process which may provide insights, clarity, or a shift in your being.

3. What art supplies do I need ?

We will discuss which art modalities you prefer at our first session and this will inform us on what supplies you may need. I would recommend some basic visual arts materials such as paper and drawing material. There is a vast array of drawing material from pencils, pens, markers, pastels, to paint. With somatic, body-based modalities, materials are not required. With music and rhythm, a lot can be improvised. I can recommend supplies that can be picked up at a local art store or Dollarama. Visit the materials page for more information.

4. Am I covered by my Health Insurance or OHIP?

OHIP does not cover Expressive Art Therapy. Nor is it covered by Health Insurance.
